A Catholic priest had to apologize on June 30 after he was criticized for referring to Black Lives Matter organizers as “maggots and parasites” on a church website, according to IndyStar.com.
A Catholic priest who referred to those who loot and destroy in the name of “Black Lives Matter” as “maggots and parasites” was removed from public ministry by his bishop on Wednesday, adding to the list of officials in various businesses and institutions who are being purged in the current race frenzy.
Bishop Timothy Doherty, of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, took the action against the Rev. Theodore Rothrock, of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Carmel, for comments that the pastor made on June 28 in the weekly bulletin, reported CBS News.
“The only lives that matter are their own and the only power they seek is their own,” Rothrock wrote. “They are wolves in wolves clothing, masked thieves and bandits, seeking only to devour the life of the poor and profit from the fear of others. They are maggots and parasites at best, feeding off the isolation of addiction and broken families, and offering to replace any current frustration and anxiety with more misery and greater resentment.”
The diocese expressed “pastoral concern for the affected communities” in a statement posted to its website.
“The suspension offers the Bishop an opportunity for pastoral discernment for the good of the diocese and for the good of Father Rothrock. Various possibilities for his public continuation in priestly ministry are being considered, but he will no longer be assigned as Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Deacon Bill Reid will serve as Administrator of St. Elizabeth Seton,” the statement declared.
Ashten Spilker, the cofounder of Carmel Against Racial Injustice, told CBS affiliate WTTV that Rothrock’s post “was one of the most hateful things that I have read in my life.” The group plans to protest in front of the church Sunday.
Rothrock had been due to become pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel next month.
Not only are BLM and Antifa maggots and parasites, they are also a terrorist communist organization that must be purged from the United States!!
I dont think he was saying it to belittle, but make a point, just as Jesus did when he called the religious people of his time white washed tombs and blind guides, as Stephen said the religious leaders were murderers of all the prophets,as Paul said some leaders were wolves. His point as I see it was the movement was to kill, steal and destroy…I didnt see it as him attacking certain peoples as much as attacking behavior.
