Another Virginia school board is putting the brakes on new state guidelines that effectively promote transgenderism in schools.

In a unanimous vote, the school board in Russell County in Southwest Virginia voted to reject the required rule changes that did things like force teachers and staff to use students’ “preferred pronouns” and use the opposite gender’s locker rooms and restrooms, The Washington Examiner reported.

On March 5, Christian Action Network (CAN) and Founding Freedoms Law Center (FFLC) filed a Notice of Appeal in opposition to Virginia’s recently published “Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools,” the new rules in question.

“Anyone reading through the ‘Model Policies’ will quickly learn that the guidelines are less about protecting the rights of transgender students than they are about punishing, expelling and humiliating any traditionalist who still believes in biological science and God,” said CAN president Martin Mawyer.

The Warren County School Board voted 4-0 in early July against adding the policy updates to its handbook until the litigation has proceeded through the courts.

In Russell County, residents jammed into a meeting hall to make their voices heard about the guidelines for transgender students.

“We do not hate transgender people. We do not hate homosexual people. We do not judge them,” one resident said, to applause. “God will judge them. We hate the sin that they live, and that is the problem that we have in the community today, is that [it is] trying to be pushed on all of our children.”

The Virginia Department of Education is pushing the new guidelines following their approval by Virginia’s legislature in 2020. Set to begin in the fall, the policies force administrators to use the name and gender pronouns that align with a student’s “identity,” without requiring substantiating evidence. Transgender students must also be permitted to use the bathrooms and locker rooms of the gender they want to be, rather than for the gender they actually are.
