The board of the National School Boards Association (NSBA) is trying to lock the barn, but it’s too late: The cows are already long gone and are out trampling the neighborhood.
Two top officials of the organization sent a letter to the White House, in full panic mode, on Sept. 29 complaining about how parents are getting too involved in their children’s schooling, to the point of attending school board meetings to protest mask mandates, vaccine mandates, critical race theory and perverse sexual content in their children’s classrooms.
The NSBA officials wanted no less than for such parents to be accused of “domestic terrorism,” and dealt with by federal law enforcement.
According to the New York Post, the letter has generated massive media coverage, especially after Attorney General Merrick Garland ordered the FBI – at lightning speed, since concerned parents are extremely dangerous people – to investigate threats against school officials by parents.
When will the White House and the Department of Justice walk back their overreaction?
Only now the NSBA board has distanced itself from the whole mess, saying “we regret and apologize for the letter,” co-signed by association CEO Chip Slaven and President Viola Garcia.
The board wrote of its panicky and wayward and woke CEO and president: “… there was no justification for some of the language included in the letter.”
The message added that “we deeply value not only the work of local school boards that make important contributions within our communities, but also the voices of parents, who should and must continue to be heard when it comes to decisions about their children’s education, health, and safety.”
Emails recently acquired by the group Parents Defending Education showed that board members were not consulted about the letter, which suggested that parents who object to mask mandates and the imposition of critical race theory in classrooms are engaging in “a form of domestic terrorism.”
By all indications, board members are not happy with the situation, nor with Slaven and Garcia. One wrote in an email: “Rather than helping our cause and calming the waters, this letter has re-awakened hostilities that were just beginning to finally calm down.”
